Monitor Futa
Monitor Futa began
training
Capoeira in his hometown of South Auckland, New Zealand
in 1997. After training with whomever he could, he met Mestre
China, and instantly admired the style, technique, and charisma of this
master of Capoeira. Straight away, he decided to join Mestre China's
group, becoming one of the school's first students in New Zealand. In
2000 he was offered a four-month contract to live and perform Capoeira
in shows in Melbourne, Australia with "Ole Ola" Dance Company. He
accepted, and eventually moved permanantly to Australia in 2002. In
2004 he graduated to the level of "Monitor" at
the Association of Schools of Capoeira Batizado and Graduation Ceremony
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Monitor Futa holds the group for Mestre China in Melbourne, and as well
as Capoeira, teaching
and performing Brazilian dance forms like
Samba, Maculelê, Axé, Samba-Reggae, and Zouk Lambada as
well as Hip Hop and other forms of street dance.

Futa has toured New Zealand, Tonga, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic
doing traditional Tongan dance at festivals, competitions, cultural
days, opening ceremonies, pre-match entertainment, and corporate
functions, from 1994 - 2001. He was until recently, co-choreographer
and co-owner of Latin/Brazilian dance show "Katumba" (link to site), and before
that performed Latin/Brazilian dance and percussion for "Ole Ola" in
Melbourne and "Latin Fever" in New Zealand. He has decided to retire
from performing to focus on his first love: Capoeira.
